Schools Tour

The Imagining Autism Tour of all NAS schools was completed in 2013. The team went to six schools across the UK, after having our final intervention at the NAS School, Helen Allison in Meopham.

  • Monday 14th October 2013, Broomhayes School and Children’s Centre, Devon.
  • Tuesday 22nd October 2013, Sybil Elgar School, Middlesex.
  • Tuesday 19th November 2013, Robert Ogden School, Rotherham.
  • Monday 6th January 2014, Anderson School, Bristol.
  • Monday 10th March 2014, Daldorch School, Scotland.
  • Wednesday 23rd March 2014, Radlett Lodge, Hertfordshire.

The day opened with presentations from team members that introduced the attendees to principles that guide the work of Imagining Autism, and the techniques we have developed. This was complemented by footage and photos from the project.

This was then followed by a practical demonstration workshop that looked at puppetry and clowning, and how we have found these to be particular useful in the project, as well as in some member of the teams personal lives.

The workshop concluded the day called “Perceiving Differently” which used some ideas and exercises that helped attendees engage in the thinking, experiencing and empathising with the otherness of autism.
